Britten-Norman Reports Progress on UK Islander Aircraft Production

ritten-Norman has announced that more than half of the assembly of the first Islander aircraft built entirely in the United Kingdom has been completed at its Bembridge facility.

The development is part of the company’s initiative to return full production of the Islander to the UK. For several decades, major assemblies were manufactured overseas before final assembly in Britain. The Bembridge production line now consolidates the entire build process domestically.

Production Schedule

The company confirmed that wing assembly on the first aircraft is expected to be finalised later this year. Final assembly is scheduled for early 2026, with the first delivery anticipated in spring 2026.

Grahame Stone, Britten-Norman’s Commercial Director, said the shift to Bembridge is intended to enhance production efficiency and provide greater reliability for operators.

Workforce and Facilities

Since outlining its reshoring plans in 2023, Britten-Norman has invested in new manufacturing technology, including CNC equipment, and increased its workforce by more than 40 percent over the past year. In parallel with new production, the company is strengthening support services, focusing on spare parts availability and maintenance.

Demand Outlook

The Islander aircraft continues to attract interest, with confirmed orders and Letters of Intent already secured. Nearly 1,300 Islanders have been delivered since the type entered service, supporting roles in regional transport, cargo, and surveillance.

The new UK-based production line is expected to expand output over the coming years to meet market demand.
