Indian Navy receives first P15B guided-missile destroyer

As a major effort to boost it’s naval warfare capabilities, The Indian Navy has received first P15B stealth guided-missile destroyer on October 28, Thursday, said an official statement on Saturday. The destroyer was being built at Mazgaon Dock Limited (MDL).

The keel laying ceremony of first Visakhapatnam class was held in October, 2013 and the ship was launched in April 2015.

According to details, 4 ships in this class are to be commissioned in Indian Navy. The other three ships are to be named Mormugao, Imphal and Porbandar.

 

P15B guided missile destroyers (Visakhapatnam class)

This naval warship has a full-load displacement of 7,400 tonnes and a length of 163-metres. The P15B guided-missile destroyer can accommodate a crew of 312 persons, has an endurance of 4,000 nautical miles and can carry out a typical 42 days mission with extended mission time in out of area operation. It’s maximum speed is about 30 knots.

This ship is armed with Brahmos supersonic missiles and Long Range “Barak-8” Surface to Air Missiles (SAM).
