Pakistan International Airlines gets first A-320 Simulator

The national flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced yesterday that it had entered into an agreement with L3Harris Technologies, an American defense and aerospace company, for the procurement of state of the art, advanced Full Flight Simulator (FFS) of Airbus A320 aircraft. L3Harris will deliver the simulator to Pakistan Int Airlines in 2022 and make the airline the launch customer of Reality 7E “Evolution” simulator in the Middle East, Africa, South Aisa (MEASA) region.

The simulator will be installed at PIA Training Centre (PTC) in Karachi. PTC will also offer the training facility on its A320 simulator to Pakistani and foreign airlines pilots. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan currently has 670 pilots rated on the Airbus A320.

The simulator will tremendously boost pilot training and save millions of dollars. Earlier, PIA pilots were bound to travel abroad for refresher courses along with an inspector of civil aviation. The installation of the Airbus simulator will end the considerable expenditure of the national flag carrier for pilots’ training. Pilot training abroad is costly at almost $300 per hour, excluding the travel and accommodation expenses.

The national airline has started the construction of a simulator complex in which the simulators of Boeing 777 and Airbus 320 will be installed. The simulator complex will be linked to the airport hotel.
