Royal Australian Submarine Capabilities

Royal Australian Submarine fleet comprises six (6) Collins-class diesel-electric submarines. These submarines are a formidable part of Australian defense capability.

 

Firepower:

All these submarines are equipped with 6 single 533mm Torpedo Tubes.

UGM-84C Harpoon Block 1B serves as the main Anti-Ship armament in these submarines. Mk 48 ADCAP mod 7 Heavy Weigh Torpedoes are also part of the massive firepower of Collins-class submarines. These submarines can be armed with forty-four (44) Stonefish Mark-III mines.

 

Specifications:

These submarines were manufactured by Australian Submarine Corporation Kockums. All six (6) Collins-class submarines were built from 1990 to 2003. These submarines have a speed of 20 knots when submerged while surfaced speed is 10 knots. These submarines cost about A$850 million per unit.

These submarines are equipped with CH-043 search periscope and CH-093 attack periscope. Both periscopes were manufactured by Thales.

  • Waller (SSG75)
  • Dechaineux (SSG76)
  • Sheean (SSG77)
