TTP Attacks On Pakistan Army From Across the Border

The militant organization Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was viewed as a mostly spent force, riven internally, handicapped by the deaths of successive commanders, and pushed from its strongholds.

However, the TTP, also known as the Pakistani Taliban, has resurfaced in recent months, uniting bickering sections and launching a wave of deadly strikes across Pakistan’s tribal region.

Underscoring its resurgence, the TTP is carrying out increased attacks on Pakistan’s armed forces. Yesterday, 4 soldiers were martyred during an intense exchange of fire as Security forces raided suspected hideouts in the town of Mir Ali in North Waziristan.

The TTP militants are involved in terrorist activities against security forces, targeted killing, and kidnapping for ransom. The movement is most notorious for a 2014 attack on a school in Peshawar which killed nearly 150 children.

Meanwhile, due to the loss of funding and back support from Afghanistan, TTP has been struggling to run its operation. Last year, it signed a truce with Pakistan in return for amnesty however, it broke the truce citing the lack of commitment from Pakistan’s side.

Although, TTP has been voicing its support for the Afghan Taliban and rejoicing their success in taking over Afghanistan. Many regional and non-regional states have voiced concerns over the presence of such terrorist groups in Afghanistan. Afghan Taliban has categorically rejected the claims of TTP and has warned of action if it doesn’t adhere to the principle of negotiation with Pakistan.

Meanwhile, reports are also coming that Pakistan has been carrying on overt strikes against TTP leadership in Afghanistan and the presence of its elements inside its own border.

Pakistan has been continuously pressuring the Afghan government to take strict action against such terrorist groups. Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether the Taliban in Afghanistan will not allow any terrorist activity from its soil. Afghan Taliban leadership is under severe stress to prevent the economic collapse of Afghanistan and has been asking the world to help Afghanistan in times of humanitarian crisis.

However, many countries are hesitant to accept the government of the Afghan Taliban and are looking to solid actions from the Afghan Taliban.
