Turkish drone Industry: Anka UAV

Anka is an Turkish origin Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed and manufactured by Turkish Aerospace. It belongs to the MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) category of UAVs. It has a maximum flying endurance of more then 30 hours and can fly at an altitude of 30 thousand feet. It can carry a payload of 350 kilograms and has a maximum take off weight (MTOW) of 1700 kilograms.

Well, talking about its dimensions, it’s wing span is about 17.5 meters and this UAV has a height of 3.25 m and length 8.6 meters.

The Turkish Air Force has been using the Anka unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) since 2017. ANKA UAV was developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) to satisfy the Turkish Armed Forces’ reconnaissance, surveillance, target recognition, and detection objectives.

An identification friend or foe (IFF) system, laser designator, laser finder, and armament payloads such as Rokestan smart micro munition (MAM-L), air-launched missile launcher, and laser-guided CIRIT 2.75in rocket are among the 350 kg payload it can carry.

Pakistan’s NESCOM also signed contract for the joint development of ANKA UAV in Pakistan. As per janes,

“Pakistan will manufacture different parts of ANKA UAV. ANKA Block A and Block B are initial variants while ANKA-S is the serial production variant. It features Aselsan Common Aperture Targeting System (CATS), satellite communications for beyond-line-of-sight operations, and secure communications, among other things.”

ANKA-S is powered by a PD170 turboprop engine which is manufactured by Turkish Engine Industries.
