India inks deal with Russia for the immediate procurement of AK-200 series assault rifles

Indian Army is undergoing a major modernization process and replacement of indian army’s standard rifles is also part of this plans.

According to sources, Indian Ministery of Defense and their russian counterparts signed deal for the procurement of 70,000 AK-200 series assault rifles. These rifles will replaces the INSAS rifles, which Indian Army is currently using.

India and Russia is also working on the joint production of AK-230 assault rifles.

GDI noted that Indian Army is in hurry to induct latest military equipment. In case of SIG-716 rifles, india also faced problems. Now in this case, india initially plans to procure 20,000 from russia and to manufacture 6.5 lakh in India. Indian troops deployed at Line of Control (LoC), Line of Actual Control (LAC) and frontline infantry soldiers will be equipped with american SIG-716 assault rifles and remaining soldiers will be armed with AK-203 assault rifles.
