Ivory Coast lost a Mi-24 military helicopter in a crash

A Mi-24 helicopter of the Ivorian Air Force crashed in Cote d’Ivoire, yesterday. Ivory Coast’s Defense Ministry said Friday that all five people aboard a military helicopter on a reconnaissance mission that went missing on its northern border died in a crash.

The wreckage of helicopter was found  2 kilometers (1 mile) north of Togolokaye.

The helicopter lost all contact with the control station around 2 a.m. in the vicinity of Ferkessedougou, the ministry said in an earlier statement.

The army has been battling armed militants in the north.

In feb, this year, The Ivory Coast has taken delivery of a second Mi-24 to replace those that crashed in 2019 and 2020.

On 27 November 2019, an Mi-24D (TU-VHR) was lost in a collision with an Mi-17 parked on the ground at Katiola during a visit by president Ouattara. The Mi-24D was completely destroyed in this accident.

Then on 18 March 2020, another Mi-24D (TU-VHO) came down at Felix Houphouet Boigny airport in Abidjan. It is not clear what caused the crash, but the aircraft sustained moderate damage, coming to rest on its side.
