EDGE Group, ST Engineering Partner to Advance UAE’s Sirb Programme

EDGE Group, as the prime contractor for the UAE Space Agency’s Sirb Programme, has partnered with ST Engineering, a leading global technology and defense company, to accelerate the development of the UAE’s sovereign synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite capabilities.

A Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed at IDEX 2025 by Waleid Al Mesmari, President of Space and Cyber Technologies Cluster at EDGE, and Low Jin Phang, President of Digital Systems at ST Engineering, in the presence of senior UAE and ST Engineering officials. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance the UAE’s radar-based Earth observation capabilities and drive innovation in the national space sector.

His Excellency Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, highlighted the significance of public-private collaboration in fostering a competitive commercial space industry, stating: “Expanding regional and international partnerships is key to ensuring the sustainability of the UAE’s space sector.”

Waleid Al Mesmari, President of Space & Cyber Technologies at EDGE, emphasized EDGE’s commitment to advancing sovereign space capabilities, adding: “This partnership with ST Engineering aligns with the UAE’s National Space Strategy and accelerates the development of a self-sustaining space sector.”

Low Jin Phang, President of Digital Systems at ST Engineering, underscored the company’s expertise in satellite integration, stating: “With our proven track record in SAR and optical satellites, we are well-positioned to support the Sirb Programme in delivering high-resolution Earth observation imaging capabilities.”

As part of this collaboration, ST Engineering will work with EDGE to develop a single-polarisation SAR satellite, establish a ground segment, and transfer technical expertise for SAR payload integration. This initiative reinforces the UAE’s leadership in advanced satellite imaging, autonomous space systems, and sovereign satellite development.

IDEX 2025 attendees can explore EDGE’s innovations at stand C20 in Hall 5 and outdoor stand CP-270 at ADNEC until 21 February 2025.
