Saab Secures Contract for Colombian Navy Frigate Combat System

Saab has signed a contract with Damen Naval to supply the Colombian Navy frigate combat system under the Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) program. The agreement includes Saab’s 9LV Combat Management System, 9LV Fire Control System, and a suite of advanced radars and sensors to enhance the vessel’s operational capabilities.

Under this contract, Saab will provide the Colombian Navy frigate combat system, including the Ceros 200 radar and optronic tracking fire control director, EOS 500 electro-optical fire control director, and Sea Giraffe 4A radars. These systems will strengthen the frigate’s surveillance, tracking, and engagement capabilities, ensuring enhanced maritime security for Colombia.

“The PES programme is state-of-the-art, and we are honored that the Colombian Navy has selected Saab to supply their combat system. Our partnership with Damen Naval marks an important collaboration in the naval domain. This is our first time working together,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Surveillance at Saab.

The new frigate will be built by Colombian shipbuilder COTECMAR in Cartagena, with Damen Naval delivering engineering, technical support, and shipbuilding materials. The vessel is based on Damen Naval’s SIGMA 10514 series, a proven modular design. The Colombian Navy frigate combat system will play a key role in enhancing its defense capabilities. The first frigate under this program is scheduled for delivery in 2030.
