Denmark acquires KONGSBERG’s Naval Strike Missile

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has signed a contract to supply the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) and associated installed equipment to Denmark in a deal valued at NOK 2.1 billion.

Welcoming Denmark to the growing list of nations selecting the NSM, Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, stated,

“We are pleased to welcome Denmark to the group of countries that have selected the NSM, further cementing its position as the anti-ship missile of choice for NATO navies.”

The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) is procuring the NSM missiles for its Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates. The acquisition follows an accelerated government-to-government (G2G) agreement between DALO and the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (FMA), with KONGSBERG signing the contract with FMA.

Lieutenant General Per Pugholm Olsen, Commanding General of DALO, highlighted the efficiency of the G2G model, stating,

“This agreement with Norway is a prime example of a smart and rapid procurement process. The NSM will serve as a cutting-edge replacement for the Harpoon missiles that have completed their mission in Ukraine, significantly enhancing the Royal Danish Navy’s combat capability.”

With this acquisition, Denmark became the 14th country to select the NSM, joining the navies of Norway, Poland, Malaysia, Germany, the United States (Navy and Marine Corps), Romania, Canada, Australia, Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Latvia.
