On March 13, forces from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), in collaboration with Iraqi Intelligence and Security Forces, successfully executed a precision airstrike in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, leading to the death of Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rifai, also known as Abu Khadijah. He was a key leader in the ISIS organization, serving as the Chief of Global Operations and holding the position of #2 in the group. Another ISIS operative was also killed in the strike.
Abu Khadijah, who was the Emir of ISIS’ Delegated Committee, was responsible for overseeing the global operations, logistics, and planning for ISIS. Additionally, he controlled a substantial portion of the financial resources used to sustain the group’s operations worldwide. His leadership played a pivotal role in maintaining ISIS’s global network.
Following the strike, CENTCOM and Iraqi forces moved to the site and discovered both dead terrorists. Both operatives were found wearing unexploded suicide vests and armed with multiple weapons. DNA analysis confirmed the identity of Abu Khadijah, connecting him to a prior raid in which he narrowly escaped.
“Abu Khadijah was one of the most important ISIS members in the entire global ISIS organization. We will continue to eliminate terrorists and dismantle their organizations that pose a threat to our homeland and to U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region and beyond,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, Commander of U.S. Central Command.
