Hanwha Aerospace to Supply Chassis Components for 87 Krab Self-Propelled Howitzers

Hanwha Aerospace has signed a major contract with Poland’s Huta Stalowa Wola S.A. (HSW) to deliver chassis components for 87 Krab Self-Propelled Howitzers, further solidifying the long-standing partnership between the two defense manufacturers. The agreement, valued at approximately USD 280 million, will cover deliveries between 2026 and 2028.

The Hanwha Krab chassis components deal includes not only the delivery of key structural elements but also the powerpacks that are essential to the operational performance of the Krab, a 155mm/52-calibre artillery system currently in service with the Polish Armed Forces.

The signing ceremony took place at HSW’s headquarters in Stalowa Wola, attended by senior leadership from both companies. Notable participants included Hanwha Aerospace President and CEO Mr. Jaeil Son, HSW President Mr. Wojciech Kdziera, PGZ S.A. President Mr. Arkadiusz Bąk, and Hanwha Aerospace Europe CEO Mr. Billy Boo-hwan Lee.

“About a decade ago, we began our journey together with the first KRAB program,” stated Mr. Son. “The success of those 120 units demonstrated not only the integration of technologies from both sides but also became the cornerstone of an ironclad relationship between our two nations.”

Hanwha Aerospace and HSW have been cooperating on the Krab program since 2014. This new contract marks the third such agreement, following earlier deals signed in 2014 and 2023.

The Krab howitzer is a key artillery platform for Poland and symbolizes successful defense collaboration between Poland and South Korea. Hanwha emphasized its ongoing commitment to delivering advanced equipment swiftly and supporting local industrial capabilities through technology transfer and joint production.
