The StormShroud autonomous platform has officially entered operational service with the Royal Air Force, marking a major leap in the UK’s air combat capabilities. Developed as the first of a new generation of Autonomous Collaborative Platforms (ACP), StormShroud is designed to support RAF missions in some of the world’s most contested battlespaces.
The StormShroud autonomous platform will work alongside F-35B Lightning and Typhoon fighter aircraft, enhancing their survivability by blinding enemy radar systems. This crucial function increases the effectiveness of crewed aircraft, enabling deeper penetration into hostile environments with reduced risk.
Drawing lessons from recent conflicts—including the war in Ukraine—and other global operations, the RAF developed StormShroud to reflect the demands of modern warfare. While Uncrewed Air Systems (UAS) are not new to the RAF, this platform introduces a new level of autonomy, real-time responsiveness, and battlefield collaboration.
As part of the UK’s Future Combat Air System (FCAS), the StormShroud autonomous platform demonstrates the RAF’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies for sustained operational advantage.
