BAE Systems has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art shiplift and land-level ship repair facility at its Jacksonville shipyard, marking the completion of a major infrastructure upgrade valued at $250 million. The milestone was celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by over 500 guests, including senior naval leaders, company executives, and community stakeholders.
This major investment represents a transformation of BAE Systems’ ship repair capabilities, strengthening the company’s strategic role as a partner to the U.S. Navy and the broader commercial maritime industry.
“Today marks an important milestone as we celebrate the completion of a world-class ship repair facility upgrade here in Florida,” said Tom Arseneault, President and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. “The introduction of our new shiplift and land level repair facility represents more than just progress for BAE Systems Ship Repair—it reflects a shared commitment to innovation, growth, and collaboration.”
Enhancing Maritime Superiority Through Innovation
The ceremony featured remarks from Acting Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jim Kilby, emphasizing the strategic importance of public-private collaboration in sustaining maritime readiness. The modernized complex is designed to significantly improve efficiency, safety, and capacity for ship maintenance and repair.
The new shiplift allows for vessels to be lifted out of the water and placed on a land-level platform for streamlined repair operations—an advancement that positions BAE’s Jacksonville yard among the most capable in the nation.
Supporting National and Commercial Fleet Readiness
With this investment, BAE Systems aims to enhance its ability to service both naval and commercial fleets, contributing to national defense and economic development in the region. The facility is expected to create long-term value by supporting faster turnaround times, greater workforce productivity, and improved sustainability in shipyard operations.
