Safran and Bombardier Forge Strategic Defense Partnership at Paris Air Show 2025

At the prestigious Paris Air Show 2025, French aerospace group Safran and Canadian aviation leader Bombardier Inc. signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) this morning to explore new avenues of collaboration focused on the joint development of cutting-edge defense technologies.

The partnership aims to combine Safran’s advanced aerospace systems with Bombardier’s renowned aircraft platforms to accelerate the development, innovation, and industrial scale-up of high-performance, reliable defense solutions. By leveraging their complementary strengths, both companies are positioning themselves as key contributors to the global defense technology landscape.

“Strengthening our longstanding partnership with Bombardier is a highly strategic move for both our groups,” said Olivier Andriès, CEO of Safran. “By combining our strengths, we’ll be well placed to accelerate innovation and deliver the advanced defense technologies of tomorrow.”

“This collaboration between Bombardier and Safran will foster the development of new solutions by leveraging our respective areas of expertise,” added Éric Martel, President and CEO of Bombardier. “Bombardier and its more than 18,000 people stand ready to help our nations, and others, meet their evolving defense needs.”

The signing of this LoI aligns with recent government commitments to deepen Franco-Canadian industrial ties, particularly in the aerospace sector. In a joint statement issued on June 13, French Prime Minister François Bayrou and Quebec Premier François Legault underscored the sector’s strategic importance and reaffirmed their governments’ support for cross-Atlantic industrial collaboration.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in transatlantic defense cooperation and reflects the growing demand for agile, innovative defense technologies amid a shifting global security environment.
