GE Aerospace has signed a multi-year maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) agreement with China Airlines to support the airline’s future fleet of Boeing 777X aircraft. The deal covers GE9X engines, which will power the carrier’s 14 new 777X jets, reinforcing a long-standing partnership between the U.S. engine maker and the Taiwan-based airline.
China Airlines has been a GE Aerospace customer since 1999, beginning with GE-powered Boeing 747-400s. Over the years, the airline has also selected GE90 and GEnx engines for its 777-300ER and 787 Dreamliner fleets, respectively.
“We are grateful that China Airlines selected GE Aerospace to service its new GE9X engines,” said Russell Stokes, President and CEO of Commercial Engines and Services at GE Aerospace. “We’ll continue working closely with them to ensure smooth entry into service and reliable operation of their 777X fleet.”
The GE9X is the exclusive engine for the Boeing 777X, including the 777-9 and 777-8F variants. With 10% better specific fuel consumption than the GE90-115B, the GE9X is the most fuel-efficient engine in its class and holds the title as the world’s most powerful commercial engine.
In addition to performance, the GE9X features lower emissions, improved durability, and quieter operation, meeting the latest industry standards. The engine is also compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blends, aligning with the aviation industry’s goals for carbon reduction.
China Airlines’ decision to entrust GE Aerospace with its GE9X engine support underscores the airline’s confidence in GE’s global MRO network and technical expertise. The agreement ensures optimized engine performance, cost-effective maintenance, and on-time support as the airline integrates the 777X into its long-haul operations.
GE Aerospace continues to expand its support for next-generation aircraft fleets, including high-efficiency widebody platforms. The GE9X’s adoption by multiple global carriers signals growing momentum behind the Boeing 777X program.
