The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) earned top accolades at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025 in the UK, with its debut deployment of the JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets making a strong impression in the wake of a recent military standoff with India.
Held at RAF Fairford in southern England, RIAT is one of the world’s premier military aviation events, attracting participants from over 30 countries. Pakistan’s presence this year was marked by both operational significance and display excellence, culminating in two prestigious awards: the “Spirit of the Meet” Trophy for the JF-17 Block-III and the “Concours d’Elegance” Trophy for the C-130H Hercules.
Operational Debut of the JF-17 Block-III
The JF-17 Thunder Block-III, a 4.5-generation multi-role combat aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China, made its international airshow debut at RIAT. Notably, this deployment follows the aircraft’s combat role in a four-day military engagement with India earlier this year, during which it was credited with downing advanced Indian fighters.

The aircraft flew directly from Pakistan to the UK, performing an in-flight air-to-air refueling operation—highlighting its long-range operational readiness.
“Winning these prestigious awards is a testament to our professionalism, technical expertise, and relentless pursuit of excellence,” said Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu. “Keeping the nation’s flag high has always been the hallmark of Pakistan Air Force.”
C-130 Impresses with Custom Livery
The PAF’s C-130H Hercules, painted in a striking “Eyes in the Skies” theme, won the “Concours d’Elegance” Trophy for best-maintained and most visually impressive aircraft. The aircraft has been a symbol of Pakistan’s commitment to excellence in presentation and upkeep, having previously won awards at RIAT in 2006, 2016, and 2018.
Strategic Messaging and Soft Power
This year’s RIAT participation was not only a demonstration of technical capability but also a strategic move to project Pakistan’s growing airpower and modernization efforts. The JF-17’s presence attracted considerable attention due to its combat credentials and indigenous development background.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) described the PAF’s achievements as a “source of immense pride for the entire Pakistani nation,” noting that the awards reinforce the country’s “consistent record of aviation excellence.”
With its performance at RIAT 2025, Pakistan reaffirmed its growing role in global military aviation, combining operational impact with visual and technical excellence on an international stage.
