EOS unveils ‘Apollo’ as the official name of its High Energy Laser Weapon (HELW), scalable to 150 kW, designed to counter drones with unmatched precision and speed of light engagements.
Transforming Counter-Drone Defence
Drones are now central to modern conflict, being deployed for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strikes. Their rapid proliferation and unpredictable flight profiles make them challenging to defeat with conventional systems.
Apollo is designed to meet this urgent need. It is optimised to counter Group 1–3 drones, disrupt onboard sensors at range, and deliver cost-effective defence against swarm attacks. Key features include:
-
Scalable power output up to 150 kW
-
360° coverage, including vertical engagements
-
Unlimited shots with external power supply
-
Over 200 stored engagements when isolated
-
Flexible deployment – containerised or vehicle-mounted
Seamless Integration with Layered Defence
The system can operate as a stand-alone directed energy weapon or integrate into a layered counter-UAS architecture, working alongside EOS’ Slinger remote weapon system and missile-based interceptors. Apollo is fully compatible with NATO fielded command-and-control and integrated air defence systems, ensuring interoperability for coalition forces.
Strategic Importance for Defence
The unveiling of Apollo builds on EOS’ historic August 2025 achievement, when it secured the world’s first export contract for a 100 kW-class HELW with a European NATO member state. This milestone reinforced both EOS’ leadership in directed energy weapons and the global shift towards non-kinetic, scalable air defence solutions.
Dr Andreas Schwer, EOS Group CEO, stated:
“EOS has developed its high energy laser weapon to meet the urgent market need and emerging strategic requirement to defend against drone swarm attacks at an economical cost. Being ITAR-free and fully controlled by EOS, Apollo is ready for partners to adopt, localise, and sustain as their own.”
EOS’ Innovation Strategy
Building on decades of expertise in laser and optical technologies, EOS has leveraged its heritage to create Apollo – a next-generation directed energy system that strengthens defence forces’ ability to protect against evolving aerial threats.
