Bangladesh Navy Signs Do228 Fleet Maintenance Contract with General Atomics AeroTec Systems

The Bangladesh Navy has signed a new maintenance and modernization contract with General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS), the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the Do228 aircraft.

The agreement covers heavy maintenance, structural inspections, modernization upgrades, and pilot training for two of the Navy’s Do228 special mission aircraft, further strengthening the long-standing partnership between GA-ATS and the Bangladesh Navy.

Over a Decade of Successful Do228 Operations

The Bangladesh Navy has operated the Do228 fleet for more than 10 years, with its first two aircraft delivered in 2013. These aircraft have been deployed in multiple special missions including:

  • Maritime surveillance

  • Reconnaissance flights

  • Search and rescue (SAR)

  • Medical evacuation (MEDEVAC)

  • Paratrooper deployment

Due to their performance, the fleet was expanded in 2021 and 2022 with two additional Do228 aircraft – the first produced under GA-ATS after its acquisition of the program.

Heavy Maintenance and Advanced Upgrades

Under the new contract, the two 2013-delivered Do228s will undergo a 72-month inspection and a 12-year structural check at GA-ATS’s facility in Germany.

Additionally, one of the aircraft will be equipped with state-of-the-art Hensoldt surveillance radar technology, enhancing its operational effectiveness for maritime patrols and multi-role missions in Bangladesh’s territorial waters.

Training Programs for Pilots and Operators

The agreement also includes comprehensive pilot and maintenance crew training. Bangladesh Navy pilots will train at GA-ATS’s Do228 full flight simulator in Germany, while specialized training will be provided for the operation of the newly installed Hensoldt radar system.
