ASELSAN’s GÖKSUR Air Defense System Achieves First Live-Fire Intercept, Strengthening Türkiye’s Naval Defense

Turkish defense company ASELSAN has completed a live-fire test of its GÖKSUR Air Defense System, marking the first successful interception of a sea-skimming target by a domestically developed missile. The test represents a major step forward in Türkiye’s indigenous naval defense capabilities.

The test was conducted in Sinop, along Türkiye’s northern Black Sea coast, where the GÖKSUR IIR missile, fitted with an advanced imaging infrared seeker, destroyed a sea-skimming target at a range exceeding 11 kilometers. The missile was launched from ASELSAN’s GÖKSUR 100-N Vertical Launch System (VLS), underscoring the nation’s growing expertise in indigenous missile-launch and guidance systems.

During the engagement, the missile was guided via ASELSAN’s GÜDÜ data link in its mid-course phase and autonomously locked onto the target during the terminal phase, achieving a direct hit. The system was developed jointly by ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK SAGE to deliver high-efficiency point air defense for naval platforms against anti-ship missiles, cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and combat aircraft.

ASELSAN stated that the successful test demonstrates the maturity of Türkiye’s national missile-defense engineering and the country’s expanding role in developing self-reliant defense technologies.

“With GÖKSUR, Türkiye has reached a new milestone in its naval defense capability,” said Ahmet Akyol, ASELSAN President and CEO. “This success not only enhances naval deterrence but also reaffirms ASELSAN’s commitment to advancing indigenous systems that ensure operational superiority for our armed forces.”

The GÖKSUR missile family is part of ASELSAN’s broader efforts to modernize Türkiye’s shipborne air-defense infrastructure, creating a layered protection architecture that strengthens fleet survivability and national defense resilience.
