Saab Secures SEK 2.6 Billion Contract from FMV for Future Fighter Concept Studies

Swedish defense and aerospace company Saab AB has received a new order worth approximately SEK 2.6 billion from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the continued conceptual development of future fighter systems. The contract will run from 2025 to 2027.

Advanced Research on Future Air Combat Capabilities

The newly signed order covers conceptual studies of manned and unmanned platforms, integrated under a system-of-systems framework. It also includes technology development, prototype demonstrators, and collaborative research aimed at enhancing Sweden’s next-generation air combat capabilities.

Saab will continue to work closely with FMV, the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), GKN Aerospace, and other industry partners. The initiative expands upon the earlier agreement signed in March 2024, marking the next step in Sweden’s long-term strategy for future air defense innovation.

Saab’s Commitment to Future-Ready Defense Solutions

Commenting on the development, Lars Tossman, Head of Saab’s Business Area Aeronautics, stated:

“This order sets the next step on our joint journey in delivering innovative solutions to meet future operational needs of the Swedish Armed Forces and other customers.”

Saab’s future fighter program aims to explore advanced autonomous technologies, AI-enabled mission systems, and sustainable aviation innovations that will shape the next era of combat air systems, complementing ongoing European defense initiatives.
