The VT-4 is a third-generation, Chinese-origin Main Battle Tank. This tank is equipped with a 125mm smoothbore main gun. Chinese company “China North Industries Corporation (Norinco)” designed and manufactured this main battle tank. The tank crew consists of the commander, driver, and gunner. The VT-4 main battle tank features an air-conditioning system, a fire extinguisher, and an explosion suppression system.

This tank is equipped with a 125mm smoothbore gun as the main weapon while a remotely operated 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun act as secondary weapons onboard the VT-4 tank. The main gun can fire multiple types of rounds including armor-piercing fin-stabilized discarding-sabot (APFSDS) rounds, high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warheads, artillery, and guided missiles (1).

The VT-4 tank features advanced armor protection, including composite armor and explosive reactive armor (ERA), which provides enhanced protection against a variety of threats, including armor-piercing rounds, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The main battle tank is equipped with a GL5 active protection system (APS), which integrates four fire control radars with a detection range of approximately 100m. This tank is also equipped with smoke grenade launchers and provides protection against nuclear, biological, and chemical attacks by means of a NBC protection system.

The VT-4 main battle tank has a road speed of 70 km/h and 50 km/n in cross-country conditions. VT-4 is one of the leading export products of China North Industries Corporation. Till Now, three states procured VT-4 tanks including Pakistan, Nigeria, and Thailand.
