The Royal Australian Submarine fleet consists of six (6) Collins-class diesel-electric submarines, forming a key pillar of Australia’s naval defense strategy.
Firepower
• Each Collins-class submarine is armed with six 533mm torpedo tubes.
• The primary anti-ship weapon is the UGM-84C Harpoon Block 1B missile.
• They also carry Mk 48 ADCAP Mod 7 heavyweight torpedoes and can be fitted with up to forty-four (44) Stonefish Mark-III mines, enhancing their offensive capability.
Specifications
- The Collins-class submarines were manufactured by Australian Submarine Corporation Kockums, with construction taking place between 1990 and 2003.
- Submerged speed reaches 20 knots, while surfaced speed is 10 knots.
- Each unit costs approximately A$850 million.
- They are fitted with CH-043 search periscopes and CH-093 attack periscopes, both developed by Thales.
