Spanish industry, led by Airbus, and Türkiye’s leading aerospace firm, Turkish Aerospace, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the Advanced Jet Trainer Aircraft, Integrated Training System – Combat (ITS-C) programme. The partnership aims to replace the Spanish Air and Space Force’s aging F-5M trainer aircraft with modern, high-performance training platforms, including the HÜRJET.
The HÜRJET, developed by Turkish Aerospace, is an advanced single-engine, twin-seat supersonic jet trainer aircraft designed for next-generation pilot training and combat readiness. The collaboration leverages Airbus’ strengths in aircraft design, manufacturing, support, and training solutions, alongside Turkish Aerospace’s innovation and technological expertise.
This agreement will support the modernization of the Spanish Air and Space Force while contributing to the nationalization of Spain’s integrated training system. It also seeks to enhance Spain’s domestic defense capabilities, deepen defense ties with Türkiye, and address the increasing operational demands for modern trainer aircraft.
Airbus, a global leader in aerospace and defense, has been designated as the national industry coordinator for this project, building on its deep experience in aircraft manufacturing and systems integration.
Turkish Aerospace, Türkiye’s flagship aerospace and defense company, specializes in the design, development, manufacturing, integration, and full lifecycle support of a broad range of aerospace systems. Its HÜRJET programme represents a significant leap in supersonic trainer capabilities.
This agreement builds upon a prior MoU between the two companies, laying the groundwork for long-term cooperation in the defense aviation sector and positioning the HÜRJET as a competitive solution for advanced training requirements in Europe and beyond.
