Boeing Delivers Nusantara Lima Satellite to Boost Indonesia’s Strategic Communications

Boeing has delivered the Satelit Nusantara Lima (SNL) to PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN). The new satellite will expand Indonesia’s high-speed broadband and secure data coverage to even the most remote parts of the country.

Strategic Role in National Connectivity

SNL is built on Boeing’s 702MP platform, which is widely used for defense and commercial space missions. It carries a high-throughput payload with a total capacity of over 160 gigabits per second (Gbps). This allows the system to deliver fast internet, stable data links, and secure communication channels for civilian and government users.

Its beam coverage can be adjusted from orbit. This means PSN can direct extra bandwidth to high-priority areas when needed. Such flexibility is critical for disaster response, maritime surveillance, and command-and-control operations in sensitive regions.

Power and Endurance

The satellite is powered by advanced solar arrays made by Boeing’s Spectrolab division. These can generate up to 15 kilowatts of electricity, enough to run the payload for more than 15 years. The design is built to withstand harsh space conditions, ensuring long-term reliability.

Launch and Service Timeline

SNL is scheduled to launch next month from Florida’s Space Coast aboard a commercial rocket. It will enter geostationary orbit at about 22,000 miles above Earth. After testing in orbit, the satellite is expected to begin full service in early 2026. It will form part of PSN’s goal to reach 330 Gbps total capacity and connect over 35,000 points nationwide.

Regional Significance

Indonesia’s 17,000 islands cover vital sea lanes in the Indo-Pacific. Secure space-based communications are essential for both economic growth and national defense. SNL will help improve maritime domain awareness, border monitoring, and coordination in regional emergencies.

Other Southeast Asian countries are also investing in satellites to strengthen their own strategic capabilities. SNL’s launch positions Indonesia as a stronger player in this regional space race.

Boeing and Indonesia have worked together for more than 75 years in aerospace and defense. The SNL program builds on this history, combining Boeing’s engineering expertise with PSN’s operational reach. The result is a satellite that strengthens Indonesia’s digital infrastructure while reinforcing its defense readiness.
