Diehl Defence and MDSI Partner to Expand IRIS-T Integration Across Fighter Platforms

Diehl Defence, a global leader in missile and air defence systems, has entered into a strategic IRIS-T missile integration partnership with MDSI, a pioneering firm in advanced payload integration solutions. The agreement, signed at the LAAD 2025 defence exhibition in Rio de Janeiro, marks a key milestone in expanding the operational footprint of the IRIS-T short-range missile across a wider range of aircraft platforms.

As part of the agreement, MDSI’s Platform Independent Stand-Alone Payload System (PISAPS) will be used to facilitate seamless integration of IRIS-T missiles into platforms that previously lacked full compatibility. This includes legacy fighter jets and unmanned aerial systems, enabling air forces to benefit from IRIS-T’s advanced capabilities without extensive and costly airframe modifications.

The IRIS-T missile integration partnership leverages Diehl Defence’s combat-proven missile technology and MDSI’s modular architecture to deliver fast, flexible, and scalable deployment solutions. This integration accelerates capability enhancements while ensuring interoperability across joint and coalition forces—a growing requirement in today’s evolving threat landscape.

Currently, the IRIS-T missile is in operational service with the air forces of 13 nations and has been procured by 20 countries globally. It is already integrated with a wide range of platforms including the Eurofighter Typhoon, Saab Gripen, F-16, KF-21, EF-18, Tornado, and F-5E. The IRIS-T is recognized for its effectiveness in countering enemy aircraft, as well as air-to-air and surface-to-air missile threats.

With the inclusion of PISAPS, this latest IRIS-T missile integration partnership unlocks new operational possibilities, particularly for air forces seeking rapid upgrades to their existing fleets. This development reflects both companies’ commitment to innovation and mission readiness in modern aerial warfare.
