Finnish Defence Forces to Receive Tracked Bridge Layer Vehicles from Patria

The Finnish Defence Forces have signed a major agreement with Patria for the procurement of six Leopard 2L Tracked Bridge-Laying Vehicles, strengthening Finland’s engineering and mobility capabilities as part of its broader modernization efforts. The contract, valued at €23.6 million (excluding VAT), marks another significant investment in heavy engineering systems sourced from domestic industry partners.

Under the contract, Patria will supply advanced bridge-layer variants capable of transporting, launching, and retrieving LEGUAN bridges of various lengths. These platforms, based on the proven Leopard 2 chassis, allow rapid mobility support for armoured formations, enabling forces to cross obstacles, rivers and difficult terrain under combat conditions. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026, ensuring timely integration into the Finnish Army’s engineer corps.

Jussi Järvinen, Patria’s Executive Vice President for the Finland Division, said the agreement further reinforces Patria’s long-standing role in supporting Finland’s defence readiness. “The agreement further strengthens Patria’s position in the Finnish defence industry as the leading supplier of system integrations and heavy engineering equipment to the Finnish Defence Forces,” he said.

The Leopard 2L bridge-laying capability forms a crucial component of Finland’s mobility and survivability strategy, ensuring that mechanized and armoured units can manoeuvre effectively even in complex operational environments. With the geopolitical landscape in Northern Europe evolving rapidly, the new systems will significantly boost Finland’s operational flexibility and mission preparedness.
