GKN Aerospace Signs Contract with BAE Systems for Eurofighter Typhoon Transparencies

GKN Aerospace has secured a multi-year follow-on contract with BAE Systems to continue supplying transparencies for the Eurofighter Typhoon fleet through the end of 2030. The agreement extends a longstanding partnership and ensures steady production from GKN Aerospace’s Luton facility in the UK.

This six-year deal supports the sustainment of the multinational Typhoon fleet. The deal guarantees the delivery of cockpit canopy and window components, commonly referred to as “transparencies”. The order also reinforces the strategic role of the Luton site, providing continued production flow and workforce stability.

“This is a critical time for the European defence industry as it steps up to meet growing government commitments and equipment needs,” said Shawn Black, President of GKN Aerospace’s Defence business. “We are proud to continue our long partnership with BAE Systems on this iconic platform. Honoured to support the Typhoon fleet and protect our servicemen and women.”

Supporting the Typhoon Fleet Sustainment

The Eurofighter Typhoon remains a central element of air combat fleets across Europe and allied nations. As Typhoons remain in operational service well into the 2030s, ongoing sustainment contracts like this are vital to maintaining readiness and availability.

GKN Aerospace’s transparencies are critical safety and performance components, offering high optical clarity, impact resistance, and environmental protection. These components are tailored to withstand demanding high-speed flight. They are designed for integration with modern head-up displays and sensor suites.

The new contract ensures that international users: the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, and export customers will continue to receive timely and reliable support for their fleets.

Industrial and Strategic Importance

The contract underscores the strategic value of domestic aerospace manufacturing. By continuing production in Luton, GKN Aerospace will sustain a skilled workforce.

The agreement comes at a time of growing investment in European defense programs, including Future Combat Air Systems (FCAS) and Tempest. GKN Aerospace’s continued involvement in legacy platforms like Typhoon places it in a strong position for future capability development.
