Royal Canadian Navy is equipped with 12 halifax-class guided missile frigates. These frigates were designed for anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare.
All Halifax class frigates are armed with RGM-84L Harpoon Block-II Anti-Ship Missiles (AShMs).These missiles have a strike range of about 135 kilometers and possess sea-skimming capabilities. These frigates are equipped with a 57 mm main gun.

Moreover, these frigates are also equipped with two 8-cell Mk 48 mod 0 Vertical Launch System for RIM-162C ESSM surface to air missiles. For Anti-Submarine Warfare, these frigates are equipped with two twin 324mm Mk 32 mod 9 Anti-Ship Torpedo Tubes. Theses torpedo tubes carry Mk-46 Light Weight Torpedoes, which have a strike range of 8 kilometers.
These multi-purpose frigates were commissioned between 1992 and 1997. During 2010s, these ships went through a comprehensive modernization program. As per Naval-Technology, modernization program includes; new command system, Harpoon missile system upgrade, radar suite, interrogator friend or foe (IFF) mode S/5, tactical data links and countermeasures suite.
