South Korean defense company Hanwha Aerospace is participating in CANSEC 2025—Canada’s largest defense exhibition—held in Ottawa from May 28 to 29, under the theme “With Canada, For Canada.” The company is presenting a wide range of integrated defense solutions tailored specifically to meet Canadian operational and environmental requirements.
Supporting Canadian Defense Modernization
Hanwha is positioning several of its flagship systems as core offerings for Canada’s ongoing defense modernization initiatives. These include the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer (SPH), the K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicle, and a Wheeled SPH designed to handle Canada’s diverse terrain. All three are being evaluated in line with Canada’s Indirect Fire Modernization (IFM) program.
The Wheeled SPH, engineered for enhanced mobility in Canadian conditions, offers a cruise range of 700 km and a top speed of 100 km/h, ensuring rapid deployment and flexibility in operations.
Arctic-Ready Submarines and Maritime Defense Systems
Another key highlight is Hanwha’s Jangbogo-III Batch-II (KSS-III) submarine, proposed for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP). Designed with enhanced Arctic capabilities, this platform is being considered for a contract potentially worth up to KRW 60 trillion. It aims to address Canada’s strategic requirement for under-ice operations and long-endurance patrols in northern waters.
Additionally, the Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launcher System (MRLS) is being showcased with a special configuration that includes anti-ship missile capabilities—a significant enhancement to bolster Canada’s maritime defense posture.
