Hanwha Aerospace is making a strong statement at the Avalon Australian International Airshow 2025, showcasing a broad portfolio of advanced defense systems tailored for modern battlefields. The event, held at Avalon Airport from March 25 to 30, is the largest defense and aviation exhibition in Oceania and a key platform for global defense innovation.
Focus on Proven Systems: Chunmoo MRLS and L-SAM
At the center of Hanwha’s exhibit is the Chunmoo Multiple Rocket Launch System (MRLS), a mobile, precision-guided weapon system that has attracted international attention following its successful export to Poland. Designed for rapid deployment and flexibility, Chunmoo is capable of launching multiple types of guided munitions, making it suitable for diverse mission profiles.
Hanwha is also presenting its L-SAM (Long-range Surface-to-Air Missile) system, a core component of South Korea’s upper-tier missile defense architecture. L-SAM is engineered to intercept high-altitude threats and is positioned as a strategic asset for integrated air and missile defense operations.
Live Demonstration Highlights Manned-Unmanned Teaming
In a live demonstration, Hanwha connected its Avalon exhibition booth with its local production facility, H-ACE (Hanwha Armored Combat Engineering), also located in Geelong. The demonstration featured real-time video transmission and illustrated coordination between the TIGON manned armored vehicle, unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and drones.
The integrated operation highlighted the company’s growing expertise in manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T), a capability central to future battlefield scenarios.
Strengthening Local Presence in Australia
Hanwha’s participation at Avalon reinforces its long-term commitment to the Australian defense market. Through Hanwha Defense Australia, the company is already leading several critical programs, including the AS9 Huntsman self-propelled howitzers and the Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs), both intended for the Australian Army.
With the establishment of the H-ACE facility in Geelong, Hanwha is not only supporting local production and technology transfer but also contributing to sovereign defense capabilities through job creation and advanced manufacturing.
Global Momentum Through Strategic Exports
In addition to its work in Australia, Hanwha continues to expand its presence globally. Recent high-profile sales to Poland, including the Chunmoo MRLS and K9 self-propelled howitzers, underscore the company’s growing role as a key defense exporter from South Korea. These developments reflect a broader international demand for scalable, integrated defense systems capable of countering evolving threats.
