HAVELSAN Advances Training Ecosystem for ALTAY Main Battle Tank with Next-Generation Simulation Technologies

HAVELSAN is expanding Türkiye’s armored warfare capabilities through state-of-the-art simulation technologies designed for the ALTAY Main Battle Tank. The defense technology company’s comprehensive simulation ecosystem aims to strengthen the training and readiness of the Turkish Land Forces while aligning with international standards for modern armored warfare.

Integrated Training Ecosystem

Developed in coordination with class schools and training centers of the Turkish Land Forces, HAVELSAN’s ALTAY simulation systems combine classroom instruction, semi-open training areas, and virtual reality (VR) laboratories. This integrated ecosystem enables tank crews and maintenance personnel to undergo realistic mission scenarios and maintenance drills within a controlled, immersive environment.

The hybrid simulation architecture merges mechanical structures with virtual and augmented reality elements, allowing users to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot systems as they would in actual battlefield conditions. Multi-camera streaming and large-display systems enable instructors to monitor multiple groups simultaneously, enhancing the efficiency of collective and individual training.

Advanced Maintenance and Fault Simulation

HAVELSAN’s Virtual Maintenance and Fault Simulation System models the electrical and cabling network of the ALTAY tank in 3D, allowing trainees to follow authentic maintenance procedures and simulate fault detection. Using virtual tools, personnel can perform diagnostic tests and complete full troubleshooting cycles step by step, improving familiarity with components not visible in physical training environments.

Live Turret Training Model

A key component of HAVELSAN’s project is the Live Turret Training Model, equipped with a domestically developed motion system—one of Türkiye’s first large-scale dynamic training platforms. By incorporating real turret and hull components, the system reproduces the operational dynamics of field conditions while reducing wear and tear on active-duty vehicles.

Delivery and Global Outlook

Under the ALTAY simulation program, HAVELSAN will deliver 44 product types comprising 94 training products in total, across 10 batches, with initial delivery slated for late 2025 and subsequent shipments continuing through 2028. The project reinforces HAVELSAN’s position as a leader in defense simulation engineering, systems integration, and digital training technologies.

Beyond national use, HAVELSAN’s solutions are designed to meet export and interoperability requirements, providing partner forces with scalable, sustainable, and cost-effective armored training solutions. The systems significantly reduce operating costs by eliminating fuel, spare-part, and manpower expenses associated with live tank operations.

Driving Digital Transformation in Defense Training

By leveraging advanced simulation technologies for the ALTAY Main Battle Tank, HAVELSAN contributes to both Türkiye’s defense modernization and the global transformation of digital military training. The company’s approach prioritizes operational realism, safety, and readiness—key factors in the evolving landscape of land warfare.
