At IDEX 2025, Rosoboronexport has unveiled the latest iteration of the T-90MS “Proryv” Main Battle Tank (MBT), a combat-proven platform that has undergone significant modernization based on real battlefield experience. Developed and manufactured by Uralvagonzavod (UVZ), the T-90MS now features enhanced protection against emerging threats and incorporates cutting-edge firepower upgrades, reinforcing its status as one of the most advanced and battle-hardened tanks in the world.
Enhanced Protection for Modern Battlefields
“The displayed tank received the latest technologies and new technical solutions. It has reactive armor, bar screens, electronic warfare against drones, and differentiated armor principle. It is therefore protected against FPV drones, antitank missiles and grenades,” Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev told TASS at IDEX.
This modernization effort is based on lessons learned from real combat operations, ensuring the tank remains highly survivable in contemporary conflicts. The upgraded armor package, active protection systems, and advanced electronic warfare capabilities provide a multi-layered defense against a wide range of battlefield threats.
Cutting-Edge Firepower and Precision Strike Capabilities
In addition to its improved protection, the T-90MS has been equipped with new-generation ammunition that significantly enhances its lethality. The tank can now fire advanced armor-piercing shells, high-explosive rounds with remote detonation, and guided missiles, allowing it to effectively engage both heavily armored and fortified targets. These upgrades enable the T-90MS to dominate in diverse combat scenarios, from urban warfare to open-field engagements.
The new digital fire control system further enhances target acquisition and engagement speeds, improving combat effectiveness in high-intensity operations. The integration of a network-centric warfare suite enables real-time data sharing, situational awareness, and coordinated operations with other battlefield assets.
A Combat-Proven Powerhouse
With a well-established reputation as a battle-tested main battle tank, the T-90MS “Proryv” has consistently demonstrated its reliability, firepower, and survivability in modern warfare.
“The armor confirms effectiveness in the operation and there is a major interest in T-90MS and its modifications. We display it with all systems that meet modern requirements. Practically all partners want us to share the experience of combat engagement. The vehicles that have proved effectiveness trigger major interest of foreign customers,” head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugayev told TASS at IDEX.
At the same time, Uralvagonzavod stated that the study of the damaged Leopard MBTs showed that Russian tanks are better protected.
“Modern Russian tanks have better protection compared to Western tanks, including due to a much smaller area of weakened zones. The main advantage of our armored vehicles is that they are constantly modernized taking into account real combat use,” said the UVZ.
