India Conducts Flight Test of Indigenous Nirbhay Missile

India conducted a flight test of the indigenous Nirbhay cruise missile on April 18, 2024, from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. The missile test was conducted by the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO).

“The missile performance was monitored by several Range Sensors like Radar, Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS), and Telemetry deployed by ITR at different locations to ensure complete coverage of the flight path”, the Indian Ministry of Defence said in the press release.

The missile was powered by an indigenously designed propulsion system by the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bengaluru.  Several research facilities of the DRDO contributed to missile development under the leading role of DRDO’s Bengaluru-based Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE).
