Indian Navy commissioned the 2nd Arihant class submarine, INS Arighaat, in a ceremony held at the Indian Navy’s Ship Building Centre (SBC) in Visakhapatnam. Indian Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, graced the occasion as the chief guest. INS Arighaat will operate under the umbrella of the Indian Strategic Forces Command.

It is equipped with four missile launch tubes, capable of carrying either four K-4 Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) with a range of over 3,500 kilometers, or up to twelve K-15 SLBMs, each with a range of approximately 750 kilometers.

Arighaat will “further strengthen India’s nuclear triad, enhance nuclear deterrence, help in establishing strategic balance and peace in the region, and play a decisive role in the security of the country”, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said at the commissioning ceremony.

INS Arighaat is a nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) and the second of the four planned Arihant-class submarines.
