KONGSBERG Secures $240 Million Joint Strike Missile Contract for US Air Force

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has been awarded a $240.9 million firm-fixed-price contract by the United States Government for the production and delivery of Joint Strike Missiles (JSM) for the US Air Force, according to an official statement released on Monday.

Contract Scope and Production Details

The contract covers Lot Two production of the Joint Strike Missile and includes the procurement of all-up rounds with containers, test hardware, and associated support equipment. The award was made as a sole-source acquisition, underscoring KONGSBERG’s role as the prime developer and manufacturer of the JSM program.

All production and related work under the contract will be carried out at KONGSBERG facilities in Norway, with completion scheduled by 30 November 2028.

Funding and Contracting Authority

Funding for the program will be drawn from US missile procurement budgets across two fiscal years. The award obligates $137.97 million from Fiscal Year 2024 funds and $102.93 million from Fiscal Year 2025 funds at the time of contract signing.

The contract is being managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, under contract reference FA8681-26-C-B002.

Strengthening Long-Range Strike Capabilities

The Joint Strike Missile is a fifth-generation, long-range, precision-guided cruise missile designed for internal carriage on platforms such as the F-35 Lightning II, significantly enhancing survivability and strike reach in contested environments. The missile provides advanced capabilities against high-value, well-defended land and maritime targets.

The latest contract further strengthens cooperation between Norwegian defence industry and the United States, while supporting the US Air Force’s efforts to modernize its stand-off strike and precision engagement capabilities.
