KONGSBERG Secures Full-Rate Production Contract for ACV-30 Turrets Worth Up to $330 Million

KONGSBERG Secures Full-Rate Production Contract for ACV-30 Turrets Worth Up to $330 Million

The United States Marine Corps has awarded a full-rate production contract to Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) for the supply of 30mm remote turrets for the Amphibious Combat Vehicle 30mm (ACV-30) program. The agreement, valued at up to $330 million, marks a significant milestone in enhancing the Marine Corps’ next-generation armored capabilities.

Initial Order to Be Produced at Expanded U.S. Facility

The first order, issued by PEO Land Systems Program Manager Advanced Amphibious Assault (PM AAA), includes a substantial number of turrets that will be produced at KONGSBERG’s facility in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Following a recent expansion, the facility now features a dedicated medium-caliber turret production line and has created additional skilled manufacturing jobs in the region.

“KONGSBERG is honored to support the U.S. Marine Corps by equipping them with increased firepower and capacity,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. “The ACV-30 offers superior performance compared to current comparable systems, and we see strong market potential for our medium caliber turrets, both domestically and internationally.”

Advanced Capabilities of the ACV-30

The ACV-30 is one of four variants in the Marine Corps’ new Amphibious Combat Vehicle family, designed and built by BAE Systems. This variant features KONGSBERG’s MCT-30, a stabilized, remotely operated 30mm turret offering enhanced lethality, modularity, and protection.

The MCT-30 is vehicle-agnostic and can be fitted with various effectors, including anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM). Its integration on the ACV-30 provides the Marines with a highly capable and survivable weapon system suitable for modern amphibious warfare.

Longstanding U.S.-Norwegian Defense Partnership

All turrets and remote weapon systems for U.S. customers are produced in Johnstown, utilizing a broad American supply chain. KONGSBERG has been a trusted defense partner to the United States for over two decades, delivering systems such as the Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS) to the U.S. Army and the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS).

Since opening in 2008, the Johnstown facility has produced over 20,000 remote weapon stations and turrets, reinforcing KONGSBERG’s role in strengthening U.S. industrial base and defense readiness.

Timeline and Future Outlook

This production contract follows a November 2024 order for long-lead items worth $51 million, which helped secure production timelines for the ACV-30 program. The newly announced contract includes an initial order valued at approximately $118 million, with additional options for further systems. Initial deliveries are expected to begin in the near future.
