Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace signed an agreement with the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) to modernize the Ula class submarines of Norway. Kongsberg will modernize the software and hardware of the combat system onboard Ula class submarines, which will extend their operational life cycle.
The contract is worth about NOK 436 million and will keep alive the submarines till 2030. Norwegian Navy is planning to induct the Type 212CD submarines in the 2030s which will eventually end the service of the current Ula class submarines.
“KONGSBERG is pleased to be part of the update program ensuring the Ula-class’ operational capability until the next generation of submarines arrives”, says Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.
