Korea Aerospace Industries Offers FA-50 and KF-21 to Iraqi Air Force

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is presenting the FA-50 light combat aircraft and the KF-21 Boramae multirole fighter jet to the Iraqi Air Force at the ongoing Iraq Defense Exhibition (IQDEX 2025). This move marks a significant step in Iraq’s efforts to modernize and diversify its aerial capabilities.

The FA-50, a light combat and training aircraft, offers multi-role flexibility, precision strike capabilities, and low operational cost — making it a strong contender for Iraq’s light attack and training requirements.

Meanwhile, the KF-21 Boramae is a 4.5-generation fighter jet featuring advanced avionics, stealth-compatible design, and a wide array of weapon integration. It is intended to bridge the gap between current-generation fighters and fifth-generation platforms.

KAI’s participation at IQDEX 2025 and its offer of the FA-50 and KF-21 reflect South Korea’s growing role in the global defense industry and its interest in enhancing defense ties with Iraq. The proposal aligns with Baghdad’s broader airpower modernization strategy and regional security objectives.
