Kuwait Extends Eurofighter Typhoon Support Contract with Leonardo Until 2029

The Ministry of Defence of Kuwait has extended its in-service support contract for the Eurofighter Typhoon fleet, with Leonardo continuing as prime contractor. The new agreement ensures integrated logistics support and training will be delivered locally by Leonardo Aviation Services at Salem Al Sabah Base through December 2029.

This extension reinforces Kuwait’s long-term commitment to the Eurofighter programme and underscores its strategic partnership with Leonardo.

Advanced Capabilities for National Defense

Kuwait placed an order for 28 Eurofighter Typhoons in 2016 to enhance its national air defence system. Deliveries began in late 2021, and most of the fleet is now operational. Built in Italy, the Kuwaiti Typhoons represent the most advanced production standard available, equipped with cutting-edge avionics and systems.

The extension of in-service support ensures the fleet continues to operate at peak performance levels, safeguarding Kuwait’s ability to respond to evolving regional security challenges.

Localized Support and Training

Leonardo Aviation Services, a Kuwaiti company, plays a central role in supporting the Kuwait Air Force. The firm provides engineering support, maintenance, repair, overhaul, supply chain management, and crew training for the Eurofighter Typhoons. By offering comprehensive services locally, the company enables seamless operations while building national expertise and self-sufficiency.

Supplying tailored support solutions is also a core element of Leonardo’s global strategy. By maintaining proximity to its customers, Leonardo ensures its advanced platforms remain mission-ready and cost-efficient throughout their service life.

Reinforcing Strategic Partnerships

The in-service support activities carried out in Kuwait will maximize the capabilities of the Eurofighter Typhoons, aligning with the country’s defence requirements. For Leonardo, the contract marks another milestone in its expanding service footprint in the Middle East, where long-term partnerships are central to supporting national defence priorities.

By extending this agreement until 2029, Kuwait has secured continuity in both operational readiness and training for one of the most advanced fighter fleets in the Gulf region.
