MTU Aero Engines has officially launched maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for Pratt & Whitney Canada’s (P&WC) PW800 engine family. MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg facility will become the second site worldwide with full overhaul capabilities for the advanced business jet engine. The announcement marks a significant milestone in a partnership between MTU and P&WC. This partnership has already spans four decades.
The move follows recent certification by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). MTU will provide end-to-end support for the PW800 series, powering business aircrafts. These aircrafts include the Gulfstream G500, G600, and Dassault Falcon 6X, with the G400 to follow. The launch was celebrated at the Ludwigsfelde facility. Celebrations involved executives from both companies and representatives from the Canadian Embassy. It took place in Berlin.
“Contributing to Pratt & Whitney Canada’s business jet engine families is a key element of our strategy,” said Michael Schreyögg. He is the Chief Program Officer at MTU Aero Engines. “This addition expands our MRO portfolio to more than 30 engine types, the largest in the world.”

P&WC has delivered over 900 PW800 engines, which now power more than 350 aircraft across 29 countries. The fleet has accumulated approximately 630,000 flight hours. The PW800 engine is known for its fuel efficiency and environmental performance. It offers double-digit improvements in emissions and fuel burn compared to earlier-generation engines.
Maria Della Posta, President of Pratt & Whitney Canada, noted, “The PW800 engine family is the most modern and fuel-efficient in its class. We are confident in MTU’s capability to help us deliver world class MRO services to our global customers.”
MTU’s collaboration with P&WC dates back to 1985. More than 5,000 engine shop visits and over 9,000 low-pressure turbine modules delivered to date. MTU also contributes key components including the low-pressure turbine module and parts of the high-pressure compressor for the PW800. Moreover, it provides On-site Service (OSS) across the EMEA region.
MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg will now serve as a Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF). The Ludwigsfelde location already supports PW200, PW300, and PW500 engine MRO operations. It also hosts the joint Pratt & Whitney Customer Service Centre Europe which is active since 1992.
The expansion of PW800 capabilities marks a new chapter in the long-standing collaboration between MTU and Pratt & Whitney Canada. Both companies committed to supporting the next generation of high-performance business aviation engines.
