Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy have officially signed a five-year extension to their ongoing In-Service Support (ISS) agreement, reinforcing a long-term partnership that began nearly a decade ago. The contract ensures continued maintenance, upgrades, and operational readiness for key vessels delivered by Naval Group to Egypt.
Under the renewed agreement, Naval Group’s engineering and technical teams will support seven major naval platforms:
-
FREMM multi-mission frigate Tahya Misr
-
Two Egyptian Landing Helicopter Docks (E-LHD): Gamal Abdel Nasser and Anwar El Sadat
-
Four Gowind® corvettes: El Fateh, Port Said, El Moez, and Al Ismailia
The expansion highlights Egypt’s commitment to sustaining high fleet availability while integrating advanced technologies across its naval assets.

ToggleStrengthening a Strategic Naval Partnership
The extension builds on an existing ISS contract first signed in 2019, further solidifying Naval Group’s long-term presence in Egypt. Over the past decade, Naval Group has delivered some of the Egyptian Navy’s most strategic assets, including:
-
1 FREMM frigate
-
2 Mistral-class Landing Helicopter Docks (E-LHDs)
-
4 Gowind® corvettes, of which three were built locally through a technology transfer program
This collaboration reflects Egypt’s continued investment in modernizing its naval forces and enhancing maritime security capabilities.
Local Industry Participation to Expand
The contract renewal also supports Egypt’s industrial ecosystem. Naval Group confirmed that the company will:
-
Increase local employment opportunities by expanding Egyptian technical teams
-
Build new partnerships with Egyptian suppliers for maintenance and lifecycle support
-
Strengthen knowledge transfer to support long-term self-reliance in naval sustainment
These steps align with Egypt’s broader strategy to localize defence production and enhance domestic industrial capability.
Leadership Statements
Pierre Eric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of Naval Group, welcomed the extension:
“We are honoured to extend our cooperation with the Egyptian Navy and continue our support in the maintenance and modernisation of its fleet.”
His comments underline Naval Group’s commitment to ensuring the Egyptian Navy’s vessels remain in high readiness and benefit from continuous upgrades throughout their lifecycle.
A Decade of Cooperation and Future Outlook
Naval Group established its subsidiary in Alexandria in 2018, marking its dedication to long-term operations in Egypt. The renewed ISS contract ensures continuous support for Egypt’s growing and increasingly sophisticated naval fleet, positioning the country as a major maritime power in the region.
