Patria and Babcock Partner to Manufacture CAVS 6x6 Armoured Vehicles in the UK

Patria and Babcock International Group have signed a teaming agreement to support the manufacturing of the Patria 6×6 armoured vehicle under the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme in the United Kingdom. The announcement follows the UK Ministry of Defence’s formal signing of the CAVS Technical Arrangement, officially joining the programme earlier today.

Strategic Partnership for the British Army

Under the agreement, Babcock will serve as Patria’s build and support partner in the UK, responsible for manufacturing the Patria 6×6 vehicles for the British Army. The collaboration leverages Babcock’s experience as a system integrator and platform builder, with advanced production facilities already supporting major British Army projects.

Tom Newman, CEO of Babcock’s Land Sector, welcomed the agreement, stating:

“We are proud to be working with Patria as their official build partner on the 6×6. As a strategic partner of the British Army, Babcock is perfectly positioned to deliver a large fleet of formidable, proven armoured personnel carriers, backed by comprehensive training and support.”

Patria’s Global Experience in Armoured Vehicle Technology

Patria brings over four decades of expertise in protected troop transportation and system integration. As the prime contractor within the CAVS programme, Patria has successfully transferred armoured vehicle production technology to several countries across three continents.

Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Protected Mobility at Patria, emphasized the value of the partnership:

“The UK needs a proven, ready-to-use vehicle platform. The Patria 6×6, already operational in NATO countries, will be locally built and supported to meet British Army requirements.”

The CAVS Programme: Strengthening European Defense

The CAVS programme is a multinational effort designed to ensure interoperability and enhance the security of supply across member nations. Patria has already received orders for nearly 1,000 Patria 6×6 vehicles, with more than 250 delivered. Each new member nation strengthens the collective supply chain, reinforcing defense cooperation within Europe.

The UK’s entry into the programme represents a significant boost for its land forces, ensuring access to a combat-proven, NATO-standard armoured vehicle backed by local manufacturing and long-term support.
