The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy’s Type 054A frigate Ziyang recently had its training debut. The newly commissioned warship will improve the PLA Navy’s capabilities.
According to a report by China Central Television (CCTV), the Ziyang, hull number 522, engaged in a training exercise that included live fire of its main cannon and anti-submarine depth charges.
Ma Shaoli, the leader of the Ziyang’s main cannon operating crew, was reported in the CCTV article as adding that the sailors would concentrate on training with future battlefields in mind and will make sure the ship can fight effectively on order.

According to a press statement sent by the PLA Eastern Theater Command on its WeChat account earlier this month, when sailors on the ship celebrated National Day on October 1, the Ziyang is associated with the PLA Eastern Theater Command Navy.
The commissioning of the new Type 054A frigate will provide the PLA Navy with improved capability to navigate distant seas. The Type 054A frigate, with a displacement of around 4,000 tonnes and the ability to undertake anti-air, anti-ship, and anti-submarine missions, is a well-balanced vessel to increase the fleet modernization of the PLA Navy.
