Repkon to Establish 155mm Artillery Ammunition Facility to Strengthen Nordic Defense Capabilities

Turkish defense technology manufacturer Repkon is set to launch a new production facility for 155mm artillery ammunition as part of a broader initiative to enhance the defense posture of Northern European nations, particularly members of the Nordic Defense Cooperation (NORDEFCO).

In response to rising geopolitical tensions and regional security concerns, NORDEFCO countries—Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden—have accelerated efforts to bolster their defense industrial base and self-sufficiency in munitions supply.

Denmark, Nammo, and Repkon Join Forces

As part of these initiatives, the Danish government recently finalized an agreement with Norwegian defense company Nammo to reopen an ammunition production plant in the Eling region of northern Jutland. This strategic facility will manufacture both artillery shells and mortar rounds.

To operationalize the plant, Nammo signed a cooperation agreement with Repkon, under which Repkon will establish a state-of-the-art production line capable of filling 155mm artillery shells with TNT, IMX-101, and IMX-104 explosives. The facility will support both conventional and next-generation high-performance ammunition, enhancing the firepower of NATO-aligned Nordic militaries.

Repkon’s Growing Global Footprint

Repkon has emerged as one of the few global players with proprietary ammunition filling and production technologies. Its international footprint has rapidly expanded, with recent contracts signed to establish ammunition manufacturing lines in the United States, Germany, Spain, Ukraine, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan.

In a move to further strengthen its capabilities, Repkon has acquired Bowas, a company with a strong legacy in Austria, Italy, and Switzerland, known for its expertise in explosive production equipment and facility construction.

With this acquisition, Repkon becomes the only defense manufacturer globally capable of building both metal parts production plants and explosives filling facilities, positioning itself as a turnkey solutions provider for nations seeking ammunition self-reliance.

Strategic Importance for Europe

The Repkon-Nammo partnership reflects a broader trend across Europe: reducing dependency on foreign suppliers and ensuring rapid access to critical defense materials amid potential conflict scenarios. The new facility will not only support Denmark’s military needs but also contribute to the shared defense infrastructure of NORDEFCO member states.

As the security landscape evolves, investments like these underscore the growing role of trusted defense manufacturers such as Repkon in shaping Europe’s defense industrial future.
