Airbus Helicopters has signed a contract with the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) for the delivery of two H225 multi-role helicopters, a move set to significantly bolster Thailand’s search and rescue (SAR) and emergency medical services (EMS) capabilities. The acquisition reflects the RTAF’s dual commitment to national security and humanitarian support.
The new order expands the RTAF’s H225M fleet, which has been in service since 2015. Over the past decade, the aircraft have been deployed in diverse roles ranging from combat search and rescue (CSAR) and troop transport to general SAR missions.
Building on a Proven Partnership
Completion work for the two newly ordered H225s will be carried out by Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) through its established partnership with Airbus Helicopters. This approach ensures seamless integration, local expertise, and continued support within Thailand.
“The H225M has proven to be an indispensable asset to our operations over the past decade, delivering exceptional performance and reliability across diverse and challenging missions,” said Air Chief Marshal Punpakdee Pattanakul of the RTAF. “The addition of these two new helicopters, specifically designated for SAR and EMS, will further strengthen our ability to protect and serve the people of Thailand, ensuring we can respond effectively to emergencies wherever they may arise.”
Airbus Highlights Global Confidence in H225
Airbus officials emphasized the strong relationship with Thailand’s air force and the broader value of the platform worldwide.
“We are deeply honoured by the continued trust the Royal Thai Air Force places in our H225 helicopters,” said Olivier Michalon, Executive Vice President of Global Business at Airbus Helicopters. “This follow-on order is a testament to the H225’s versatility, advanced capabilities, and its critical role in supporting national defence and public service missions.”
Globally, more than 360 H225 and H225M helicopters are in active service, with a combined total of nearly 980,000 flight hours. Operators include both civilian and military customers, such as France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, and Kuwait.
Expanding Regional Capabilities
For Thailand, the acquisition further consolidates a decade-long partnership with Airbus Helicopters. In addition to its H225 fleet, the RTAF also operates a number of H135 military training helicopters, underscoring its reliance on Airbus platforms for a wide range of missions.
With this latest order, the Royal Thai Air Force ensures it is equipped with modern, mission-ready aircraft capable of performing in complex operational environments while also reinforcing regional disaster response and humanitarian relief capacity.
