Saab CEO Micael Johansson Elected President of Europe's Leading Aerospace and Defence Association

Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, has been elected President and Chairman of the Board of the Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD), further solidifying his influence in shaping Europe’s defence and aerospace sectors.

Elected during ASD’s 2025 Convention and Board meeting held in London, Johansson will assume the new role on 15 June 2025 for a two-year term. He previously served as Vice Chairman of the ASD Board. His appointment will not affect his executive leadership at Saab.

As Europe grapples with evolving security dynamics, Johansson’s leadership comes at a critical juncture. He has pledged to steer ASD with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and collaborative defence strategies.

“I am honoured to accept this position and will work to ensure that ASD plays a leading role in strengthening European capabilities and competitiveness,” said Micael Johansson. “I am determined to further reinforce ASD as a driving force to secure the interests of our industry, whilst ensuring a strategic alignment across the European defence, security and aerospace sectors.”

ASD represents over 4,000 companies across 21 European countries and serves as the central voice for Europe’s aerospace, security, and defence industries. The association actively engages with EU institutions and governments to promote policies that enhance industrial competitiveness and innovation.

Johansson’s election reflects the growing emphasis on cohesive defence strategies and industrial resilience amid Europe’s changing threat landscape.
