Stingray Technologies Unveils Pakistan’s First Indigenous Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV)

In a significant milestone for Pakistan’s defense innovation ecosystem, Stingray Technologies has unveiled the country’s first indigenously developed Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) at the 2nd Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference (PIMEC 2025). The development highlights the nation’s growing capability in autonomous maritime systems and defense technology innovation.

Technical Overview and Performance

The newly introduced USV features a 25-foot fiberglass hull powered by an outboard propulsion engine, offering an operational endurance of 4–5 hours and a range between 20–30 kilometers. Equipped with an Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensor suite, the platform is designed for real-time situational awareness, data transmission, and mission autonomy in complex maritime environments.

Key onboard systems include:

  • Radar for navigation and target detection,

  • LiDAR for spatial mapping and obstacle avoidance,

  • Antenna for data communication,

  • Echo Sounder for depth measurement, and

  • EO/IR camera for high-fidelity surveillance and reconnaissance.

The vessel’s modular design enables integration of additional payloads, making it adaptable for multiple maritime missions such as coastal surveillance, reconnaissance, anti-smuggling patrols, and harbor security operations.

System Design and Mission Synergy

According to Stingray Technologies, every onboard system of the USV has been engineered for synergy — from propulsion and data transmission to mission command integration — ensuring seamless operational performance across the sea, command, and cloud layers. The company emphasizes the vessel’s reliability, resilience, and real-time awareness, underscoring its role in enabling smarter and safer maritime operations.

Pakistan’s Push Toward Maritime Autonomy

The unveiling of this USV at PIMEC 2025 represents a major leap in Pakistan’s drive toward maritime autonomy and indigenous defense manufacturing. The platform reflects ongoing national efforts to enhance maritime domain awareness (MDA) and coastal defense capabilities, aligning with the Pakistan Navy’s broader vision of technological self-reliance and innovation-driven modernization.
