Turkish defense firm STM has unveiled a significantly upgraded version of its Kargu FPV drone, incorporating an armor-piercing warhead and a cutting-edge fiber-optic communication system. The new configuration enhances the drone’s effectiveness against armored targets while ensuring mission continuity in GPS- or RF-denied environments.
Initially designed for anti-personnel roles, the new Kargu FPV now provides the capability to strike hardened positions and light armored vehicles. This upgrade positions the system as a versatile solution in the evolving landscape of asymmetric warfare.
Fiber-Optic Communication: A Game-Changer in Contested Airspace
The most notable feature is the integration of a fiber-optic tether that enables real-time, interference-free communication. Unlike conventional FPV drones, the Kargu FPV can operate without relying on GPS or radio frequencies, making it resistant to electronic jamming and spoofing.
Statement from STM
STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz stated:
“The new enhancements to the Kargu FPV drone are a response to modern battlefield requirements. With the addition of an armor-piercing payload and fiber-optic control, we’ve significantly increased both the survivability and the tactical value of the platform.”
Precision Targeting with Advanced Autonomy
Developed by STM Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş., the Kargu FPV is equipped with sophisticated autonomous capabilities, image processing, and artificial intelligence. These systems enable terminal guidance and automatic target engagement, ensuring high accuracy even in complex environments.
Key Specifications of the Kargu FPV Drone:
-

FPV Drones in Asymmetric Warfare
The Kargu FPV represents Türkiye’s advanced approach to cost-effective, tactical drone warfare. FPV drones have gained widespread attention in recent conflicts, such as the Ukraine-Russia war, for delivering pinpoint strikes at low cost. STM’s latest development strengthens the country’s indigenous defense capabilities and highlights its focus on field-proven innovations.
Following successful field trials, the enhanced Kargu FPV is expected to be deployed across a range of operational theaters, reinforcing STM’s role in shaping the future of unmanned combat systems.
